Phobias are irrational and excessive fears of objects or situations, such as claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces) or arachnophobia (fear of spiders). They can produce intense physical symptoms such as breathlessness, nausea and even full-scale panic attacks. Different people are affected in various ways, but full-blown phobias can have a very limiting effect on your lifestyle, perhaps even leaving you confined to the house.
Phobias can be very restrictive. A fear of flying might stop you from visiting relatives or taking a job offer, or a fear of public speaking might be blocking your promotion prospects. While some phobias might seem trivial or even amusing to non-sufferers, they’re extremely upsetting and frightening for those afflicted. The curing of fears and phobias is probably the best-known application of hypnosis, and it’s extremely successful. Hypnosis can be used to treat any type of phobia, and either cure it or bring it back to a manageable level.
A huge benefit of treating phobias with hypnosis is that there’s no need to be exposed to the source of your fear during treatment. I’ll help you create a safe, controlled environment where you can work on tackling your phobia in complete security.
Hypnotherapy for phobias – how I can help
All my treatments are individually tailored, and vary from patient to patient. If you already know the root cause of your fears, then progress can be very rapid, and you’ll sometimes see excellent results in as little as a single session. If you don’t know or aren’t sure what’s causing your phobia, I’ll help you to change your thinking and respond differently to problematic situations, and give you a personalised CD to help you reinforce your new behaviour patterns at home. Remember that phobias are learned fears – and it’s equally as possible unlearn them, opening up the areas of your life that you thought would be closed forever.
